Platform Stage

The 18’ x 24’ x 3.25’ platform stage I constructed at multiple schools was designed primarily for outdoor use, but could be adapted for indoor use to extend the main stage out into the seating area. The layout utilizes 3’ x 3’ plywood tiles laid onto 2’ x 4’ support legs, configurable in variable layouts to allow for placement of removable trap door tiles in any position except the outer edge. The tiles are supported by 2” x 4” edge framing underneath with an additional 2″ x 4″ piece 2’ from one edge. The legs, spaced every 2’ (3’ where there was a trap door run), were prevented from swaying with multiple 1” x 3” x 10’ angled pieces that ran criss-crossed underneath, parallel to the top and side edges.  The tiles are secured to the legs using 3.5″ coarse thread dry wall screws.
